Points of interest from the AER Gas Report 3-9 September
Queensland LNG
On 6 September 2017, daily gas production in Roma reached a record of 3720 TJ. The previous record of 3710 TJ (on 4 July 2017) was set as APLNG neared the end of a three month lenders’ test in which it was required to produce more gas than its official capacity. The latest record was set independent of lenders testing, with APLNG in full production following the conclusion on 1 September of a two-week maintenance period affecting one of its export trains.
Gas Powered Generation
Gas usage for electricity generation fell in all National Electricity Market jurisdictions besides Tasmania, where it increased from 4 TJ to 25 TJ. This coincides with Hydro Tasmania generating at its 208 MW Tamar Valley combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) from 5 September. Prior to this, the Tamar Valley plant, Tasmania’s only gas fired power station, hadn’t run since June 2017.
